Steven H. Gaines, Esq.
Steven H. Gaines has been practicing law in Westchester County and the metropolitan New York area for over forty years.
He is an accomplished negotiator and litigator. He has handled both Federal and State court matters. Throughout his career he has handled medical malpractice, civil rights violations, toxic torts, products liability, personal injury, estate litigation and an array of commercial matters. He has successfully tried to verdict over one hundred trials (both jury and non-jury). Many of these trials have resulted in substantial recoveries in millions of dollars, for clients who suffered property, business or personal damages. Mr. Gaines also has extensive experience in the areas of asbestos litigation having successfully represented a national manufacturer in hundreds of claims. He also has extensive experience in representing petroleum companies throughout various phases of development. Mr. Gaines has also represented countless restauranteurs and high-end food establishments from construction through leases, grand openings and beyond.
In 2000 Steven and Ted founded Gaines, Novick, et al. in White Plains. The two tried numerous medical malpractice and serious injury cases to verdict. Steven was the Managing Partner of Gaines, Novick, et al., and the firm grew to 16 lawyers and a significant number of support staff. Steven looks forward to continuing his 25 year friendship and practice of law with Ted in an “Of Counsel” basis and to try major cases with Ted along the way.
Howard Pearle, Esq.
Howard D. Pearl, Esq. has been practicing law since 1965. He handles criminal law, traffic courts and DUI. Howard is a well-known, trusted and respected attorney throughout the Hudson Valley Region. Howard has successfully handled DUI matters, violations of parole, violations of probation, violations of Order of Protection and Family Court matters. Howard also handles DMV refusal hearings and applications to restore driving privileges.
Monika Kopec
Monika Kopec is a Certified Paralegal with 13 years of experience. Monika has worked with Ted for five years. Monika assists attorneys and clients to move the cases forward to a successful conclusion. Monika oversees case flow, scheduling, court calendars amongst other duties that are tailored to each case so that it may stay on track.
Ted A. Novick, Esq.
Ted A. Novick, Esq. is an accomplished New York negligence attorney with more than 30 years of trial experience. Ted is passionate about the law. Ted has successfully represented clients who have been harmed by a physician or hospital’s malpractice and those who have been injured by someone else’s negligence.
Ted oversees the navigation of every client’s case through the office, ensuring it is protected and handled effectively and efficiently. Among his vast responsibilities, Ted handles the depositions and prepares every case for trial, overseeing witnesses and experts, as well as lining up medical research and coordinating legal and medical arguments.

Ted began his career at the Westchester County Attorney’s office from 1990-1996 where he handled child abuse cases and civil litigation cases on behalf of the County. From 1996 to 1999 Ted worked for two Park Avenue firms in NYC handling injury and civil litigation. In 2000, Ted formed Gaines, Novick, et al., LLP with his mentor and friend, Steven H. Gaines, Esq., in White Plains. The two “grew” the firm to 16 lawyers and a large support staff. During his career, Ted has won million dollar verdicts and settled million dollar cases year after year. In 2021, Ted left Gaines, Novick, et al., and formed the Law Offices of Ted A. Novick, Esq., P.C. where Mr. Gaines joined him as “of Counsel”. They share 75 years of experience. Ted graduated from University of Bridgeport School of Law and Stony Brook University.
